Since Aug. 22 the United States has applied a 50% tariff under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 to roughly $20 billion of Canadian imports, including agricultural products, clothing, furniture and hockey sticks, after trade talks between the two countries collapsed on Aug. 21. On Sept. 8 Canada put matching tariffs of 15%, 25% or 50% on about $20 billion of U.S. goods, including steel, aluminum, cheese, appliances and farm equipment.
